Intense first-person footage has revealed how Ukraine’s 3rd Assault Brigade saved their comrades trapped in the city of Avdiivka from being surrounded by the Russians. Video shows how the 3rd Assault opened fire on the Russians using a .50 calibre machine-gun mounted to the top of an American MRAP armoured vehicle, before moving house-to-house to flush out Putin’s men and help their brothers-in-arms flee. Ukraine’s generals gave the order to abandon Avdiivka last week in the face of a fierce Russian assault, bringing to an end a seven-year defence of the city. The 3rd Assault, one of Ukraine’s most-elite units, were sent in to cover the retreat and stop the soldiers who had been holding the city being surrounded and killed. The Ukrainians are now thought to have withdrawn to lines just beyond the city, and while some died in the escape attempt, most are thought to have made it out.
