A Russian missile factory was destroyed in a huge explosion near the city of Izhevsk. Video taken from the city shows how the night sky was lit up by the blast, with a column of flame and smoke clearly visible even from a long distance. Locals said they were woken by the detonation, which happened almost 800 miles from the frontlines in Ukraine. Russian emergency services claimed ‘there was no emergency’ at the plant, which makes engines for missiles like the nuclear-capable Iskander, Yars and Topol-M. Instead, they said the sound was from a scheduled test of a rocket engine. “No emergencies were reported, no socially significant incidents occurred,” the state emergencies department said on Telegram.
