Oil refineries are burning across Russia after Ukraine unleashed a huge wave of drone strikes on Putin’s precious money-making machine. The strikes took place overnight March 11 and targeted refineries and oil terminals that have become an economic life-line for Moscow. One refinery in Oryol was seen going up in flames after being hit by a long-range weapon, while another fire was burning in Nizhni Novgorod. Oryol is located more than 100 miles from the Ukraine border while Nizhni Novgorod is 500 miles away, showing how sophisticated Kyiv’s drone attacks have become. The attacks also come on the eve of the Russian presidential election which Putin is sure to win but is none-the-less a sensitive time, and may spark protests if public opinion turns against the war.
