A Russian armoured attack on the city of Chasiv Yar, to the west of Bakhmut, has ended in miserable failure. Ukraine’s 67th Mechanised Brigade and the ‘Eyes’ drone unit of the 120th Territorial Defence Brigade revealed footage of the attack, which involved 32 armoured vehicles and tanks was likely led by paratroopers of the Russian 98th Airborne Division. Drone footage shows how large armoured columns advanced on the city, but were quickly hit by artillery, anti-tank rockets, mines and FPV drones, breaking up the formations and forcing a retreat. At one point Russian Su-25 bombers joined the attack, but the Ukrainians report they mis-judged and bombed their own men. Kyiv’s forces say a total of 19 Russian vehicles were destroyed along with dozens of enemy soldiers killed or wounded.
Russia is trying to take Chasiv Yar because it sits on strategic high ground and would give them firing positions that overlook key Ukrainian logistics bases in Donetsk Oblast. #russia #ukraine #war
